Meet Dr. Evalie Horner

I am especially passionate about supporting artists and writers, trauma survivors, and the LGBTQ+ community—including lesbian and transgender clients.

In the late 1990s, I helped pioneer CU Boulder’s LGBTQ Studies Certificate, one of the first programs of its kind in the U.S. Since then, I’ve continued to publish in the field of LGBTQ studies, including a chapter on counseling bisexual clients. Most recently, I completed my PhD in psychology at Pacifica University, where my dissertation explored helping LGBTQ clients recover from shame.

This thread of work runs deep in me. I’ve walked with transgender clients as they navigate transition and affirmation, and I’ve held space for LGBTQ+ and lesbian couples moving through the heartbreak of divorce. My specialties also include supporting survivors of narcissistic abuse, clients navigating neurodivergence, and those carrying grief and trauma.

Beyond Talk Therapy

I integrate the body and spirit as much as the mind. As a certified yoga teacher, I bring in mindfulness, breath, and movement practices when supportive. I also offer astrology as an optional tool of insight—something I learned from my late mother, an astrologer, and continue as part of my own lineage of healing.

A Glimpse Into My Life

Outside of my practice, I am raising my twin daughters, Emma and Ryan, who remind me daily of courage, creativity, and joy. My personal and professional lives weave together in this work: queer, neurodivergent, creative, and committed to the ongoing work of healing.

My Approach

Research consistently shows that the therapeutic bond predicts growth. My practice is grounded in that truth: I am warm, collaborative, and attuned to the present moment between us. Therapy isn’t about becoming someone new—it’s about remembering who you already are and creating a safe space for your truth to emerge.
